Our fixed-route service needs a few tweaks.
Wave Transit redesigned its system and rolled out major changes in January 2025. After watching the new system in action for 9 months, there are several issues we plan to correct. We need your feedback to decide how to make our service more reliable.
Staff is proposing a handful of adjustments to help routes that consistently run late to stay on time and offer a reliable service to our customers. Below are explanations of the problems customers and staff have identified and the options available to correct them.
The proposed changes are meant to help start the conversation and are not final or guaranteed. If any changes are finalized and approved, detailed information will be available in advance of the changes taking effect. Wave Transit will use your feedback to shape possible route and schedule changes.
We need to hear from you! Please share your thoughts about the proposed changes for each route using the online survey links:
All customers who submit a survey can be entered into a drawing for a free 7-day pass. If you want to be entered into the drawing, please provide your contact information when completing an online survey. Limit one entry per customer.
Details about the potential changes to each route can be found below.
Route 105
Route 105 runs between Forden Station and the Medical Center using Market St, Kerr Ave, Randall Pkwy, Wrightsville Ave, Castle St, and 16th/17th St.
Under this plan, Route 105 would serve New Centre Dr, College Rd, and all of Randall Pwky. Route 105’s proposed changes would happen along with changes to Routes 107 and 109 to help those routes maintain hourly service throughout the day.
Route 107
Route 107 often runs late because of heavy traffic on College Rd. To help it run every 60 minutes and stay on time all day, the route needs to change.
Today, Route 107 travels between Forden Station and Monkey Junction using New Centre Dr and College Rd. Under this plan, Route 107 would move onto College Rd sooner — closer to Forden Station — instead of using New Centre Dr.
Under this plan, only one bus would travel along College Rd between New Centre Dr and Oleander Dr rather than two buses – so a bus would use New Centre Dr every 60 minutes. New Centre Dr would be served by Route 105.
Route 109
Route 109 often runs late because of heavy traffic on College Rd. To help it run every 60 minutes and stay on time all day, the route needs to change.
Today, Route 109 travels between Forden Station and the Medical Center using New Centre Dr, College Rd, Oleander Dr, 41st St, Shipyard Blvd, and 17th St.
Under this plan, Route 109 would travel to 41st St using Market St and Kerr Ave. Route 109 would no longer use New Centre Dr and College Rd to get to 41st St. The rest of the route would stay the same.
Route 105 would serve New Centre Dr instead of the 107 and 109.
Route 210
Route 210 travels between Padgett Station and Monkey Junction while serving the hospital along the way. It is paired with Route 205 to provide 15-minute frequency between downtown and the hospital.
Route 210 often runs late because of heavy traffic on 17th St and Carolina Beach Rd. To help it run every 30 minutes and stay on time all day, route or schedule changes are needed.
Options that may improve the service include:
- Shorten the route for all trips, all times, every day of the week. St. Andrews Dr would be the new end of the route. Route 210 would not travel to Monkey Junction.
- Shorten the route for all weekday trips but still provide service to Monkey Junction on weekends.
- Add time to each trip so the bus can still serve Monkey Junction all day, every day of the week, but lose the 15-minute frequency between downtown and the hospital.
